Alec Baldwin is once more charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Rust case

Alec Baldwin faces renewed charges of involuntary manslaughter for the accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the movie set of Rust in 2021.

A New Mexico jury reinstated the charges on February 1st, 2024, after a previous dismissal in April 2023 due to a legal error.

The charges suggest Baldwin was reckless and ignored safety measures when handling the prop gun that killed Hutchins.

Baldwin denies these claims, suggesting the gun could have malfunctioned.

He plans to plead not guilty; if found guilty, he could spend up to 18 months in jail.

A .45 Colt revolver used in a shooting was supposed to have fake bullets.

But real bullets were found on the set. Dave Halls, the assistant director who gave Baldwin the gun, admitted to wrongly using a dangerous weapon and got six months probation.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, in charge of the set’s weapons, might also be charged with accidental killing.
