Twitter bans 2 prominent right-wing accounts as Musk promotes free speech

Twitter has reinstated the accounts of two well-known conservatives, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and Dr Vladimir “Zev” Zelenko. This comes after Elon Musk called for free speech.

According to The Verge, soon after they rejoined Twitter with new Twitter names, they were permanently banned from the site because they broke the rules about not avoiding bans.

In 2018, Lindell was banned. In 2020, Zelenko will be banned as well.

Lindell was suspended at first because he broke Twitter’s rules against spreading false information about the election.

Zelenko banned people who tried to sell an untested treatment called Covid-19 because he broke platform manipulation and spam rules.

After Tesla CEO Elon Musk made a successful $44 billion bid to buy Twitter, he pushed for more free speech and less content moderation.

In the beginning, the wealthiest person in the world shared the App Store ranking of a social network app called “Truth Social” on his microblogging account.

Later, Twitter’s legal head Vijaya Gadde was called out for suspending the account of the New York Post, which wrote an exclusive story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. He called her out for that.

Musk has long advocated for free speech on the platform, making many people nervous. They feared that the site would be left unregulated, which would be bad for business.

The billionaire said that if Twitter wants to keep people’s trust, it must stay politically neutral. This is what he said.
