Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 8.1 in January 2023: Microsoft has said it will no longer support the Windows 8.1 operating system. The technology behemoth has announced that after January 10, 2023, technical support and security upgrades for the outdated Windows operating system will no longer be offered.

Microsoft is advising consumers to upgrade to a new computer that can run Windows 11 as well. To answer any questions users of Windows XP and earlier may have, the company has created a collection of FAQs. The business also warned that continuing to use Windows 8.1 beyond January 2023 might put your computer in danger.

Microsoft, a major player in the technology industry, has stated on its support website that it would cease offering Windows 8.1 customers the most current security patches, technical assistance, and software upgrades on January 10, 2023.

Microsoft has emphasized that consumers’ PCs running outdated operating systems may be more vulnerable to viruses and malware as it announces the end of support for Windows 8.1.

Microsoft has also released a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for Windows 8.1 users to address any questions they may have. For a simple transition and a better experience, the business advises consumers to utilize a new device running Windows 11 or upgrade to a newer operating system version.

The software will continue to function despite the end of support for Windows 8.1; it will only cease getting new security and program upgrades. Microsoft 365 programs will no longer be supported on Windows 8.1 after January 10 of the next year.

Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel and others will cease getting the most recent security and software upgrades since they are subject to Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy, which mandates that users keep current.

After deciding to include Windows 8.1 as a service pack for Windows 8, Microsoft discontinued providing technical support, security patches, and software upgrades for Windows 8 on January 12, 2016.
