Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney is Joining with Dakota Johnson in Madame Web

Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney is Joining with Dakota Johnson in Madame Web.

Following the announcement that Dakota Johnson will play the titular Madame Web, we now know who one of her co-stars will be joining the picture. According to Deadline, Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria fame will join the Sony Pictures project in an unknown role.

Sweeney also appears in HBO’s Euphoria and White Lotus. However, with narrative elements still unknown, it’s unlikely that we’ll find out who she’ll be playing in the feature film.

Madame Web has been depicted in the comics as a paralyzed, older woman for those unfamiliar with her. However, she needs to be connected to a life support system to stay alive since her chronic autoimmune illness has myasthenia gravis.

That system, by coincidence, resembles a spider web, and her powers as a clairvoyant mutant who could foresee the future of any hero with a spider connection are always helpful.

Madame Web will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, who has previously worked on Marvel properties such as Jessica Jones and The Defenders and will star Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney.

The screenplay will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the team behind Morbius.

With the success of its Spider-Man trilogy, Sony is pursuing a slew of spin-offs, including Madame Web. Then, of course, there’s also Morbius, the Venom franchise, with two films under its belt, one of which stars Kraven the Hunter.
